Third Annual Miami HEAT Black History Month Challenge to be Held February 6thFeb 2 2012 5:35PM
Presented by Pepsi ▪ Students From Dr. Michael Krop Sr. High and Deerfield Beach High To Test Their Knowledge In A Game Show-Style Competition For A Chance To Win $4,000 Grant from the HEAT MIAMI, February 2nd – The Miami HEAT announced today that students from Dr. Michael Krop Sr. High School (Miami-Dade) and Deerfield Beach High School (Broward) will participate in the 3rd Annual Miami HEAT Black History Month Challenge presented by Pepsi, which will be held at the AmericanAirlines Arena on Monday, February 6 at 9:30 a.m. The Miami HEAT Black History Month Challenge is a game show-style competition where a team from each of the schools will test their knowledge of Black history, with the winning school walking away with a $4,000 grant and tickets to an upcoming HEAT game. HEAT Players Mario Chalmers and Juwan Howard will participate in the competition and serve as captains for their respective team. The event will be hosted by HEAT/Sun Sports Courtside Reporter Jason Jackson. “Miami-Dade County Public Schools have always been a strong supporter of multicultural education,” said Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho. “By participating in the Miami HEAT’s Black History Month Challenge, our students are learning valuable lessons about outstanding African-Americans who have helped shape this great nation.” “The HEAT Black History Month Challenge allows students to develop research, teamwork and oral speaking skills while also giving them the opportunity to highlight their knowledge in a fun and competitive way,” said Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “The Deerfield Beach High School team is primed and ready to compete.” The AmericanAirlines Arena is located at 601 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33132. This event is part of the HEAT’s ongoing celebration of Black History Month, which is also sponsored by Pepsi. Throughout the month of February, the HEAT is recognizing notable achievements of various African-Americans who have helped change the course of history with their contributions in sports, literature, the arts, the community, education, music and the military. Their accomplishments will be featured during HEAT broadcasts, online at HEAT.com, as well as in-arena and in print in TIPOFF magazine” during HEAT home games.
